Heritage
Editing
An intimate examination of the processes of identity that inform femininity and womanhood, Heritage was edited to pay homage to stories of strength and love that intertwine three generations of women.
Working alongside director Rosie Jones, I took on the role of shaping Heritage through my creative choices. B-Roll, pacing, the interlacing of each woman’s story to create a dialogue about identity through femininity, and where and how the music supported that narrative were all central elements of my creative direction and process.
In particular, the application of archival B-Roll was a foremost tool for elevating each woman’s story; providing greater emotional context to the development of their identities and relationships with femininity through the visual representation of their lived experiences.
Installation
More than just the documentary, Heritage was a two-day immersive installation that guided guests through a multi-sensory exploration of femininity and womanhood.
In order to achieve cohesion between the documentary and the installation, I leant into the ethereal aesthetic by employing crossfades and hiding hard cuts under B-Roll to keep the softness of the visuals.
I also exported two versions of the documentary. One for screening, which included the credits, and the other for the installation without credits. In place of the credits was twenty seconds of music and B-Roll to allow the audience time to sit with the documentary and explore the installation between viewings.
